Help choosing mirror, floor, accessories & wall colour!
Comments (8)You need to add some personality in this room. First the flooring; you don't want to visually fight with the geometric wall tiles so try this attractive and practical flooring from Karndean http://houzz.com/photos/16332081. It's interesting without having a strong pattern. Decor; I would be inclined to use some pops of colour with a warm neutral background. The pops can be in the form of pictures or you could use wallpaper. Window; You will need to dress the window so you could add the colour here, with a roller blind or roman blind for instance. Mirror; go for the largest your room will take. If you want to go whacky, then let the mirror frame do it for you. Glitzy, glam or just plain colourful!...See MoreHelp us stop our new kitchen from going clinical!
Comments (43)I thought I'd update everyone as to what we settled on as most of you won't have seen the finished post. Went went for Little Greene French Pale Grey on the walls and then a Grey Quartz worktop which had worked quite well. To stop it from being clinical, we opted for some textured wallpaper in the dining area which is Bala Storm (I think) from John Lewis. We then added some natural tones using a wooden table, and then Vitra chairs. Along with wooden fruit bowl etc. The main window will have wooden venetian blinds, and the bay windows will probably be done in a darker grey material as the perfect fit style blinds you find in conservatories...See MoreHelp & Inspiration for Grand Ground Floor Design. Comments (12)Mulled this over, overnight! Decided, way too much building work and knocking about to justify the cost, plus you lose the garage, which will most probably devalue as per Jonathan's comment above. Makes house less saleable, as main lounge now not seperate from rest of downstairs, therefore less appealing to some. Plus, having a room labelled Study / Play area / Entertaining............cannot see how you could possibly furnish such a room, too many dual purposes. My plan below, keeps it far more simple. Leave the garage, leave the Utility and Pantry, but change their uses. One becomes downstairs shower room, the other changes from pantry to Utility. Build across the end of the Hallway and make the area under the stairs a coat room. ( handy storage), this then seperates the back of the house from the front of the house. Now take out the downstairs loo and remove both walls, this opens up the Kitchen / Diner into one big space. Add a door from the kitchen to the playroom, which you can leave open to keep an eye on the kids. You have made massive improvements with far less building works, and, should you want to at some stage make the space even bigger at the back, which isn't necessary, you could add a ground floor rear extension. ( last plan shows this ) The above layout will appeal to far more people, should you wish to sell in the future....See MoreHelp needed with colours for living room walls and floor.
Comments (1)For inspiration: And teal sofa's are great! But I would -personally- not put brown (weathered penny) on the walls. Especially not if it's 'just as dark' as the teal. Pick either a lighter or a darker color. Pale beige/greige, dark moss*. Offwhite would work just fine, as your midcentury vibe will come from your furniture. And orange and apple green should be used for small accents (pillows etc), not on large surfaces. (* Dulux Polished Pebble or Pebble Shore, Bronze Fig, RAL6007 or 6008?)...See MoreK- Dot
