Clients, question: open plan with a bar or an island?

We always wonder what is the next big trend. Recently open plan kitchens have been a popular choice but we feel as if bar options in an L shape with dining space in the middle are forgotten about. Not only they give an alternative sitting but they allow for dining area to be incorporated with the kitchen in a way where there is enough space in one room.
Are we wrong? We are looking for your comments.
