Advice please for paving colour for patio in front of small summerhous

Thinking of grey for patio paving but not sure . Garden measures 11m wide 7 metres from raised bed to rear fence. also planning small patio for corner with sand pile evening sun and usually have a swing seat there.

Any other suggestions for deisgn will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation. Alison

I would suggest grey too. Goes well against the red shade.

I think grey too! Last month we had a small patio put around our shed too. I really struggled to find slabs that I liked. In the end we went with these - they are actually concrete (which I wanted because the patio sits level with my grass and I didn’t want lawn feed to stain). Hi I would put a planted green screen of a nice flowering hedge which also has berries in the winter like Berberis. It will give you privacy and its not totally solid as a fence or wall would be and will give a much softer look. It also gives security as it has small prickly barbs You say your window sills are too narrow to take window boxes so why not put a nice long wrought iron planter under the full width of the window, attach to the wall, (It looks like the windows are quite low) or if not put a free standing planter under the window. I would not get rid of the front lawn and just have concrete slabs as you already have all the drive paved, it will just look like to much concrete and harsh unless you add some plants or create maybe a circular flower bed Too much concrete prevents good drainage too Adding a porch would be a great idea, perhaps just glass which will give a modern contemporary feel Also once you have changed that paint colour it will look a lot better

Hi ED, still working on it! Have developed this little seating area which gets the sun from 6.30 ish so perfect for breakfast & morning coffee! This is where we had the playhouse before. Obviously need to plant up the area around it. We’ve just had a large tree taken down. Don’t like to take trees down but it was a pine & blocked so much light so nothing would grow beneath it. Also have been building a stone wall to face our lower patio area & we have steps to our patio door. Next big job is the patio when I can find one I like!

Good afternoon everyone! We are blown away by the amazing response we have had from this community, thank you everyone for your feedback. We are especially grateful to Jonathan for his valuable feedback.. the idea is genius and makes so much sense! Thank you so much Jonathan for taking out the time to help us! I have never seen my husband so impressed by an idea so much!! I have attached a couple more photos showing view of the garage from the front of the house along with the entrance gate itself into the property. I have also attached a copy of our floor plan. We would really appreciate your thoughts on what we could to with the garage and front exterior in terms of: Garage walls - What do you think about the brick work? Worth keeping, or should we clad? Garage roof - We currently have an unsightly metal sheet. We don’t want to fully rebuild but we’ve seen light weight roofing for garages which look like tiling. Any suggestions or thoughts on this? Front exterior - We’re looking to improve kerb appeal of the house from the front, any ideas welcome (cladding, paint, stone work?) Windows - these are the original single pane windows which unfortunately come with poor insulation. Any thoughts on what to do for those? Further to the front patio suggestion, is it worth installing an entrance which leads straight into the kitchen through the current ‘Study’? See floor plan. (We are planning to extend the current kitchen by a further 2.5m towards the rear garden). Any ideas, suggestions and comments will be really appreciated, thank you for your help!

They’re an absolute bargain - I think they were about £27 a square metre, which is really cheap!!! As I say, our landscaper was really impressed. We went to see them in one of the shops - they actually looked much darker on the display. The sales guy assured me that they would be lighter like their photo - and he was right. They look great!

I think grey would go well. Indian sandstone is a lovely paving and comes in many natural shades including grey. Whatever you choose make sure you see the paving for real. Glossy brochures can make paving look better than it really is! Quality can vary a lot too which is reflected in the price. There is a fab garden paving retailer called The Rockery that has a huge display. They are based in Bedfordshire.
