Ha I could have written this post myself! We also have a single storey extension with integral blinds in our 4m bifold doors...our garden is west facing meaning sun all afternoon/evening. We looked at cantilever parasols last weekend but I am just not sure...it would be upwards of £1k. Our air con is being hooked up next week so at least we will be cool when the bifolds are closed but that doesn’t solve the issue of wanting to enjoy the doors open when we want. I also looked at awnings but we have downlighters in our soffits which we wouldn’t be able to use. Decisions decision....

Can’t help directly with your dilemma but I also know of someone who knocked all their rooms into one another and had bi-folds and is also having the same problem. She said it’s permanently cold and wished she’d have thought about it more before they had it done. I would have thought thick curtains floor to ceiling would be better than Roman blinds though.

Aren't they inset into the glass though? It's too late for us 😔 We are getting an air con unit though. It's about £1200 and although it won't be used a huge amount (it's a heater as well) it will be half the price of getting proper blinds in and will be instant cooling as I think the room will still feel warm even with blinds. (we have two roof lights as well!) For living purposes it's never an issue - we just open the door but much harder to deal with with guests in.

With the awning go for a dark shade such as dark grey. I had one fitted in a cream fabric and it’s gone all mossy green on the exposed bit. You can get a covered one so when it is closed the fabric will stay protected from the elements. If budget allows get an electric one as cranking it open and shut by hand is pretty hard work. Awnings come in many qualities and I would not get a budget one again!
