Howdens oak veneer internal doors - worth the extra cost over Wickes?
Comments (3)Howdens doors are thicker and twice as heavy as wickes doors ( literally ), I believe they are supposed to be of a more solid construction. Thus, they are less prone to warping. The amount of lip you have when trimming however is only 10mm on a Howdens door compared to a 20mm on a Wickes door. This needs to be taken in to consideration, you've got less wood to play with on the Howdens door if your frames aren't true ( they rarely are ). The choice is yours at the end of the day, but in answer to the question are Howdens better doors, yes, possibly. However, i'd ask what their guarantee is like in both shops............I don't know the answer. If it were me, i'd probably still go for the Wickes door at the end of the day, money is money and it's not like they're utter rubbish, they're still great doors and are FSC Certified, so they can't be that bad, I've fitted many and have never had a problem with them....See MoreGround floor dilemma - Open plan or not?
Comments (11)Thanks for your feedback. It’s good to hear from someone with a similar setup. Yes most time is spent in the lounge as it’s near the garden and is the nicest of all the rooms. The current dining room can be a bit shut away and get quite cold. If we were to change it and move the lounge to the front we know this would still be an issue but we would plan on making is cosier with furnishings. There is also an external chimney breast we would reinstate to be able to install a fire. Which as a lounge we would use, but as a dining room not so much. Yes there is a room above unfortunately but we would have two side windows facing west and the large patio doors facing south. Usually once we get to mid morning the sun fills the current lounge and kitchen through most of the day and evening, which is almost too much in the summer! But I guess in the winter that won’t necessarily be the case. Something worth thinking about I guess before deciding....See MoreSmall Kitchen/Diner/Living Room Layout Help!
Comments (6)Consider putting the tv in the alcove with a bench seat in front. A rise and fall table can tradition from a coffee table into a dining table as you need it. Folding dining chairs can be hidden behind the sofa until you need them or consider having an ottoman that can be either extra sitting space in the living room or dining seating as required....See MoreSuggestions to remodel a narrow ground floor
Comments (4)The kitchen seems not to be working because the small island is blocking so much space. If you removed that you could have a bigger table more centrally and then use the dining room as the seating/playroom. You could probably still have an armchair or small sofa in the kitchen if you wanted but store all the toys etc in the dining room....See MoreSusy Q
