Comments (2)What a fabulous room! Cream floor tiles throughout would look terrific. As long as you don´t have a black dog. I have both and have to sweep three times a day. With plain flooring you could add a nice splash of colour behind the cooker....See MoreLooking to modernise exterior
Comments (29)Think very carefully if you consider bringing the front door(s) forward. As an earlier poster has commented, it is not a good thing when it is pouring with rain and you are fumbling with keys to get in. If you do decide to bring the doors forward then I would look at fitting a glass canopy over the doors to provide a bit of shelter from the elements. I would point out that arches are not a particularly contemporary feature so it might require squaring off to get the right style. I would get rid of the hanging tiles in the gable. Render the entire front and paint a uniform colour. Grey being very much "in" at the moment. However, white paint with grey doors etc. would work well. I would also take the opportunity to have outside lighting fitted. Something in brushed stainless steel would work....See MoreIdeas to modernise 80s bungalow exterior
Comments (17)If you're trying to achieve an ultra contemporary look, when dealing with dated exteriors people usually opt for: wooden cladding, rendering the whole house and painting it white, new windows with grey frames, a contemporary door with sandblast sidelights and a toplight, replacing old roof tiles with flat interlocking clay tiles and bifolding or sliding patio doors on the exterior of the house. Any combination of the above would give it a modern feel, but if you had to choose one single thing new windows would go a long way. Would love to see a photograph to be able to give more specific recommendations!...See MoreHelp me with floor plans - modernise bungalow
Comments (16)After getting inspiration and ideas from your layout, I threw a budget out the window and started asking myself what would I do if money was no object. I started by tackling one of my bigger issues with the house - the 1970's facade. See front elevation view of house as it stands now: Current Facade: The layout below modernizes the face of the house (something I didn't think was possible) by making the main entrance on the ground floor - the 'Wow factor' comes from a double staircase on leading up to either the main hall or the sitting room, double height single pane windows mean both staircases are visible from the outside (Also letting tons of light through). The ground floor entrance is large enough to be used as a separate living space by itself (which is no harm as the staircase into the sitting room reduces its size. The only planning changes are to the centre section of the front facade. Updated Facade and Layout: Thinking the new front would look well finished with stone. Per your advice the fireplace is now moved to the side of the sitting room leaving a large centre window and the kitchen is now utilising the old utility space by removing the old kitchen W.C I also took the advice on Bed 3 but I have left the original master as is. The hotpress is now in Bed 3's old ensuite. I couldn't even hazard a guess on the cost of works detailed above........See MoreCharles
