New apartment living room design ideas (w/ my Sketchup drawings)
Comments (7)I think your ideas are spot on for the space. There is a bit of empty space, but you can sort that by tweaking your plan just a little. In the dining area, you could try moving the table further from the kitchen and putting a freestanding island in between, to give you more food prep space. Or, if it's more storage you need, you could add a sideboard where the wall cabinets are, to store dishes, glasses, drinks etc. another possibility is to go for a large round table rather than rectangular. This would fill the space nicely. In the living area, I think you have space for a corner sofa rather than the two seater you have shown, with the sofa and the armchair forming a u shape. The use of a rug to zone the space is perfect. Maybe add a narrow console table behind the sofa? Also, remember that, once you have placed all your large furniture in the room for real, it will be easier to think of little extras to add, like lamps, end tables, plants, etc. That's the fun part! And by accessorising with art, cushions, throws, and all your personal belongings, the space won't feel empty at all. Congrats on a lovely apartment and good luck with it!...See MoreFreestanding Pantry Design
Comments (8)I think the best way to approach this is to consider what you need to store, in what quantities and what sizes? Do you have lots of cans/sauce jars/cereal boxes? What do you use most frequently? Make sure these items are the most easily accessible and preferably on open display so you're not hunting in drawers or behind other stuff. I think pantries often work best when they're not too deep so you don't loose things towards the back. Though the ones that have storage within the doors are good for making sure everything stays accessible. I would suggest going for a pale wood interior to try and cut down on dark corners where things get forgotten. Or consider adding LED lights than turn on when the door is opened. Do consider if you have tall pasta jars, oil bottles, wine, a coffee maker or other unusual shapes etc that you want to store. Also decide early on if it would be helpful to have a plug socket built in. Don't just choose something because it looks nice or works for someone else - make the most of the opportunity to completely customise this to fit your buying and cooking habits and that of your family. For example if there's small kids in the house do you want space lower down they can easily grab bits from? If you have a tall and fairly empty bookcase at home you can even try approximately mapping where to put everything you usually buy on this....See MoreKitchen Plan Sense Check
Comments (6)Thanks guys. The main prep area is the island. I’m currently rejigging it to have a larger bin on the island. Re the island depth, the granite is 2500x1350 and there’s 600mm oak wrap over the end. We could make the base cupboards the people end shallower. I can’t swing the island the other way due to the doors through to the bifold doors and a pesky pillar. The baking cupboard could have a slide out shelf for the mixer, but the pull up mechanism would give me the island space to weigh out ingredients etc. The other option I’ve been playing around with is the hob on the back wall with a 500mm base unit each side, then the fridge & freezer one side and both ovens in one tall unit & a breakfast cupboard next to that. Then I’ve added a 500mm tall unit either side of the dresser, one for baking & one for snacks and shrank the middle section by putting in a 300 wine fridge instead of the 600. This leaves the island as purely prep space with a 600mm unit of bins and a prep sink. I’m not sure whether this would be less social than the hob on the island though?...See MoreBreakfast bar in a small kitchen - yes or no? (and how!?)
Comments (12)I don't feel this room really fits a peninsula but obviously you'd like to sit with a view so putting sitting facing the window is a perfect solution. The sink doesn't need to be in front of the window as you hardly spend any time washing up these days, especially with a dishwasher. Move this to the left and continue the top over with leg space (perhaps 300 deep units for a sneaky bit of storage). Alternatively, could you have one door to the garden and do Carolina's idea over the other door? good luck Emily...See MoreDaisy England
