Kitchen respray vs hand painted kitchen

To keep it short and sweet, we have our dream kitchen installed. It has been a total nightmare with sinks not fitting in, quartz needing adjusting because it rests on the butler sink. Downdraft not fitting.
The biggest problem is that the dark Green paint just scratches easily and comes off.We have about 200 scratches.
We have been offered two solutions.

Have the kitchen primed and hand painted in any colour of our choice by a professional. I would still go with dark Green but maybe more Green than grey green.
Having the entire kitchen taken apart, that means quartz would need to come down, electric hob and down draft taken out and all part to be flown to NI to have it resprayed.

Our kitchen is a shaker style kitchen made of HDF with smooth finish. I worry if we have it hand painted, it will not look good.
Also I was reading that painted kitchen are more likely to chip and scratch.
If we go with option two, it will be a total mess and I think the kitchen company worry how much it will all cost. Removal of the quartz, doing electrics for the appliances again, putting the kitchen back together.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

There are resprayers that just mask off the areas not needing to be painted rather than dismantle. Is that not an option? We had our kitchen hand painted 10 years ago, i would say after 7 years it needed touching up but we had nowhere near the scratches you have! We used Little Greene water based eggshell but the oil based would be even more hardwearing. You just need to be careful whilst the paint is curing. Re finish it just depends on the expertise of the decorator?

I agree that water based eggshell is not that hardwearing. I painted 2 bookcases in Little Green’s Slaked Lime which looks fab, but boy does it chip! I think oil based is hardier but has a lot of smelly fumes. It does need to dry completely between coats. What sort of paint do they use for spraying? My kitchen is vinyl wrapped MDF and after 13 years there is not even one chip. Pretty tough stuff.

Mine get painted by hand ( by Steve the painter ) every time I fancy a change of colour - in my line of work that's quite often !!! It only takes a couple of days ! Worth paying a pro in my opinion ! The finish is brilliant !

Hi there missrooz, how are you? Thank you very much! Well, there are a few steps to follow. After removing all the doors, drawers and hardware these include: Degreasing, sanding, priming (I used Otex high adhesion primer here), painting (the paint was oil based eggshell by Little Greene), *sanding between coats for an excellent finish and reassembling at the end for that "ta dah" moment. Hi Heather I dont think it is a Cooke & Lewis kitchen but we brought a couple of their integrated doors from b & q doors for our new appliances and they look the same. The painter just wiped on Owatrol ESP and left it to dry for a few hours, it says wipe of on the instructions but you shouldnt wipe it of. He painted 2 coats with a leyland mix oil based egg shell paint. We wanted a matt finish as apposed to a shiny finish. We left the inside of the cupboards the same colour. Here is the kitchen 1 year later it still looks as good as new.

We just repainted some doors in a rustoleum kitchen cupboard paint which is a darker colour but it was painted on with a short hair roller and you can't tell its been painted by hand ie so they might not use a brush as such but still a roller would be classed as hand painted vs spray painted (if that makes sense).

Nightmare re the scratches though!

I would have expected them to send new units/doors to replace the ones you have now and then the old ones get sent back once the new ones are ready. That's what happened with our old kitchen ie the company we bought off got the manufacturer to send new ones as they had someone come and inspect them and agreed that they hadn't been prepped properly as the paint came off the edges. That way we weren't left without kitchen doors for months!
