Removed a wall between kitchen and living room - to block one door?

Please see floorplan.

we have removed a wall between kitchen and living room to make it into a one big space.

this means that the space now has two doors. we are debating whether to block one door off or not. it will be the door closer to the staircase. should we or should we not?

pro of blocking the door - creates more wall space, gives cozier outlook as two doors a bit weird?

pro of not blocking the door - easier access both from the staircase and entrace. more open feeling?

Maybe testing your movement around the house by simply closing one door and behaving as if the door was removed. Move furniture ect. to reflect the ‘new’ layout. Then see how it affects your way of moving around the house. This might be helpful in deciding which door is the best door to have.

I am thinking that with the load bearing wall removed between the kitchen and the "bedroom" on the plan you now have 2 doors very close to each other on the right of your main entrance. I would lose the one from the hallway as you can access the kitchen through the lounge now. You could consider a new door in a better access position maybe closer to the front door. There's more walking around involved but not a huge amount. If the kitchen door was removed you could have a table or a banquette opposite the working space.

I definitely think you only need one door and usually you come into the house with shopping and want to dump straight into kitchen and so I say keep the kitchen door not the sitting room door. This will give you better space for a larger sofa in the sitting room and as other reply quicker access to the toilet! You could consider instead of closing off the other door turning it into an internal window so you would bring some light into the hallway ?

We have the same sort of layout in our 60's dormer house. The opening to our lounge is wider and has bi fold doors. It means we can open it out wider for social events, but close it in winter to keep the room cosy when it's cold. The only negative to having a door there (one one from the entrance hall) is lack of one full wall to put the sofa against! You're door is smaller so it's probably not as much of an issue as ours is.

I have Windows floor to ceiling both ends of my lounge and only one complete empty wall the opposite wall ,has large double doors with small walls each side. I find small pieces of furniture more suited to keep the feeling of light and space. I purchase a large sofa with a chaise end totally took up to much space and looked awful.

Are you sure you have the measurements correct. That's around 300 Feet long by 45 feet - The size of a football pitch! That being the right size, you'd need to get an architect on board, presumably there are some windows there etc, you can't make suggestions until you know the basics - that starts with plumbing and drains., these will dictate where you can put the rooms.

Have you asked neighbours for recommendations? you could check the local council planning portal and find similar jobs to one that you are planning. Then make contact ref the builder. Also check out Next Door app for your area, there will def be local recommendations for work carried by builders that you can view and ask q's about. Take your time - it is so important that you find the right builder.

I don’t thinking keeping two doors is a problem and if you do remove one then it will likely mean changes to the hall and you need to budget for that.

Separately if you have to decide on getting rid of a door consider what furniture you need to accommodate- it might well be the case that a big sofa necessitates loosing the living room door.

Lock the bedroom door and try it out.
