Need suggestions how to give the front of our 1970's house a facelift!
Comments (10)You've done a lovely job on the back extension, which seems to be a totally different property from the front. The trick would be to alter the front, making it more modern and in keeping with your new extension. 1. Replace the windows with more modern ones like at the rear. You'll probably find that the small upstairs window is on a landing and there isn't room to make it bigger. If there is room to the left of the front door as you face the house from the street, consider making this a floor to ceiling glass window and glass door combination http://www.urbanfront.co.uk/images/doors/Image/clearglass_jpg.jpg . The upstairs window should be aligned to the glass window below it. Match the front door to the garage door. http://www.thegaragedoorcentre.co.uk/UserFiles/Image/Hormann%20Front%20entrance%20Doors/anthracite_300.jpg The entrance porch roof can be replaced and extended across the front, up to the left hand window, with glass and steel similar to the lantern on the back extension. Lastly, the front could be landscaped with a path from the driveway through a contemporary, low maintenance garden. Since you have several Mediterranean type plants, you might consider that kind of look. Include a specimen tree to the far left and lose the overgrown shrub near the driveway....See MoreFeature wall with hidden wine cellar entrance - aesthetic help needed!
Comments (23)Thanks all. Sorry it wasn't very clear before. I started mid through my renovation sentence as opposed to the full sentence! Whoops! Thanks for your input thus far. I've attached more photos which should hopefully give a proper visual. As Karen at One Plan (who are FYI amazing and downright beyond talented) rightly said it is a walk way so nothing protruding out is a viable option for the space. We're not sure what to do with the wall, hang photos, one off statement, hidden door, visual door, standard doors for the wine nook and something else wow on the wall? It's a big space and central to the rooms movement do something cool and stylish and modern but workable. We just want what looks Amazing! Has a cool wow factor but practical. My other half was thinking a sliding door too Karen but I thought it may restrict walking space when it was open? Please give us your best design suggestion. We don't have any creative bones in us....See MoreHow to improve the front of this house? Not keen on the tiles!
Comments (8)Rather than render, that can stain (my neighbour's new render keeps having to be redone as it's stained in the corners of the window and is now beginning to break up, despite being carried out by specialists), why not consider weatherboard cladding? It's cement, comes in a variety of colours, requires no maintenance and provides extra insulation. I used it on a first floor extension to my home and absolutely love it. I extended it out over the existing brickwork to tie in the whole of the back of the house. It's Marley Cedral Weatherboard Cladding in Forest Grey. Comments (1)I'd be more concerned with the garage at the front. It looks very imposing, Do you need a garage or could you put the play room and utility in there so instead of a bid metal door the front has some windows? Or could you bring the extension round to the edge of the garage so it all looks built together with one roof?...See MoreIsla Cherry
