side wall removal replace with ??
Hello!
So we need to bring down this section of wall which is the door into the back garden. (We need the bricks to brick up the garage as the bricks are impossible to match)
My question is, what should we replace it with ? Just more bit different bricks ? Half wall half fence ? All fence ? Any suggestions would be very helpful

Comments (43)I can imagine you must be demoralised because you can’t afford what you were dreaming of but I have got to say I get excited about this kind of house, it’s amazing high ceilings and finding one at an end so the garden is not shaded is brilliant. I think you could have a beautiful space if you put bifold doors between the kitchen and the lean to, raise the floor in the lean to so it’s the same height as the kitchen and have the same flooring for a feeling of continuity. Comments (6)Hi All, thanks so much for your comments, so helpful and lots for me to start looking in to. I hadn't thought of putting the grasses in pots, perhaps I’ll try that with one or two of the ones I remove. I believe it’s possible to split them, so perhaps I do that to reduce their size a little this year. It might help to contain them a little. The dogwood looks really interesting, I love the coloured stems. I have an Acer on one side which has the lovely bright red branches during winter so perhaps I could use that to complement it or mirror it on the other side. Sonia - thank you for suggesting some other perennials that could work well. I’ve been eyeing up anemones for a while as I love them whenever I’ve seen them in other gardens, so thank you for convincing me to give them a go. Comments (12)Looks like a 50’s house, this is how they built the staircases, goodness knows why as not very attractive, if you want to make it a wow hallway and modern why not put slat wall cladding on comes in oak, walnut or grey, looks amazing, put a good wood floor down, gives a feeling of warmth but modern, also Farrow & Ball smoke green is a great colour good luck!...See MoreWhat should we do with this ceiling? Comments (3)Even though you have fixed the source of the damage i would get someone to check the actual damage to make sure you dont have any rot/damp/mould lurking as if you do it will again seep through into the ceiling paper or the new plaster. We have had this problem with walls and in the end we were advised the plaster be removed and re done as the problem was the exterior wall and even though it was fixed the damage had been done and after attempting to paper over the damp seeped through and turned the wall paper wet. Better to check than do it all up and have to take it all apart again and start over....See More

2 months agoWith inspiration from Sarah’s pic, how about something like this (first pic), but with a window instead. Or fill the gap with breeze blocks and a window then render it? Or use completely different coloured bricks to make a feature. Just a few ideas. Your house looks period, do you know what age it is?
