Floor pairing with wallpaper - going round in circles

Good morning all - I am hoping someone with a better eye for this stuff can support as I am going round in circles. We have this beige and grey speckled amtico floor. I would like to wallpaper the walls at the 'dining' end of my kitchen, but just can't find anything that feels like it matches with the floor. I tend to go for flowery, botanical or ornate paper and love greens. Can anyone offer advice on what might suit the floor or compliment it? Thank you in advance for anyone who takes time to reply.

Can you post photos of your kitchen and dining area please as it would help to see the whole space. I think your starting point needs to be to choose some samples of wallpapers you love and try them in the room before you worry about whether they’ll go with the floor.

I have had a few samples but because the floor is patterned I am not sure if patterned wall paper is wise.

Hello Sarah, I'd be inclined to suggest either dark grey, charcoal or a lighter silvery grey. Decide what the room could take. Look at the light throughout the day and the furnishings you have. What have you got going on in the rest of the house. If the feel is generally light and delicate then I would opt for a silvery grey. If you have a very strong theme throughout then perhaps it would be fantastic to have a deep moody charcoal.. Get samples and paint onto a4 paper and look at them over the course of the day to see how the light affects them. It's a wonderful colour and paper! You could accent with the skirting, architraving, cornice etc if you have those with a silvery colour with a hint of purple. Or a deep grey hint of purple if you veer towards the charcoal grey.. : ))

It looks great, I'm glad you and your daughter are so pleased and she has lots of room for friends over, playing etc. It can also be easily and cheaply adapted as she grows if she wants. My only criticism (if you can call it that) is that if not already your daughter may soon also want the desk to double up as a dressing table and therefore I think a mirror was a good idea but the memo board (which looks great) can always be moved as and when needed. (I thought i'd posted a comment on that previously but obviously not!). I might also add a desk light there for working during winter months. So which room next?!

Hubby doesn't like the patterned one Kerry. His preference is to have the chimney breast in red and the rest in something plain like below for the alcoves and other walls. Would welcome your thoughts.Also we are planning an electric insert fire on chimney breast and have posted a separate question on that. Do you think we doing the right thing as we would need to widen the hole where it slots in ? Just thought it would add to modernisation of room. Suite and carpet would have to wait for another year . Hi folks. Sorry for the delay coming back to this - we keep going round in circles with ideas, but think we have started to coalesce around something we both like. Our latest preference is shaker style wood panelling, with a textured paper within the panel apertures. Something like this; Colours broadly as per the wall on the right, though its likely the paper we will choose will be darker than that, something closer to the colour of the wall on the right. Im also thinking that the wooden panel boards are likely to be single pieces of cut wood/mdf rather than with any form of moulding, as in the picture above. The artwork mentioned about will sit in the middle of the centre panel Something broadly like this (excuse the shoddy MS Paint usage. Little Greene 'Hicks Blue' might be an early favourite. So, questions; 1) am i barking up the wrong tree here? 2) if wallpaper, should the wood panels be a similar shade to the paper or something that deliberately stands out 3) or should i just paint it all one colour? 4) better to have the panels a similar size, or e.g. the top row much bigger (longer vertically) than the bottom row (or in other woods the middle horizontal panel would be much lower down, so the bottom panels are more square)?

The floor design is very subtle and neutral so I don’t think it should limit your choice. You could choose a subtle pink/beige floral or even something bolder. However, your dining area is quite busy already so are you sure you want to add even more?

Whatever wallpaper you choose I think you should consider painting your bench seating and chairs in a matching colour to bring the scheme together.
