Lounge / Dining room layout help - Please :)
Comments (10)Hello, Mark! I'm Gabriela, a designer from Akiva Projects. First of all, you really have great ideas for your lounge/dining room! I don't see why not leave the fireplace where it is now and still do what you want - a false chimney breast built with an electric fire and TV built into it. By doing that you would have an advantage on your side: you will have the possibility of building a storage in the same wall of the fireplace using the thickness of the pillars that you have - a great way of blending them on the room! I really think that this could add value to your lifestyle. We offer a fantastic design service and would be happy to offer our advice. Have a look at our page, and please get in contact for an initial conversation. We are an award winning company renowned for our customer service and can offer complete guidance. Comments (28)Carolina, thank you, you give so much time to thas - it has given us loads to think about. We really would need to get used to the room being divided by the sofa though. We have had it that way but it made the room very small and squashed, feeling we were all sitting so close to the fire and the rest of the room unused. I have also had two 3 seater sofas coming out from the fireplace, facing each other, with a table between. I liked that as it opened the room up and it felt 'social', my partner liked it less because of difficulty viewing the tv. At the minute Ring the sofas form more of an L shape, on the wall to the left and the wall facing the windows. With the TV between the windows we can all watch TV and see the fire, without sitting behind each other. The open space is great. The downside of this layout is that if as a family we are sitting on both sofas some people can't see each other so conversation is difficult. Another thought for me was 2 of the Harrington chaise sofas - as one would fit in front of the window and stretch into the alcove beside the fire, the other would sit facing the TV and wouldn't stick out beyond the wall where the door is. This would be great for seeing each other and talking. There would still be space for 2 chairs or a sofa on the left hand wall. Unfortunately for good family time, the compromise might have to be 'looks'....See MoreLiving room / Dining layout dilema. Please help
Comments (20)Hi, Thank you for the photos, now I have a better understanding of the whole area. Yes, the sofa looks better after turning it around, but if you`re planning to buy a new one (or loveseats), it would be better to think about some modular sofas. They are easy to move in a space and you can match different sizes and colours as well. What do you mean with the option “c) separate the nook area with 3 white wood panels hanging from the beam”? Sorry, but it was clear to me. Regarding the TV nook I was thinking about the option to leave the TV and the cabinet where they are and use the walkthrough path between the column and the half wall as a storage place (see photo). You can place there a shelving system, which can be used from the dining area as well. You mentioned that you don`t like bumping into the sofa after entering the room. What about to create a small hallway and use some room dividers to make it cosy entrance, where you can sit down to take off your shoes and leave the keys and bags on a side table? The room divider should be something massive (wood or metal), but also something transparent to avoid creating dark corners. The playing nook can be placed in the corner next to the seating area (adding extra lounge chair optionally) and the home office on the other side of the dining area . Now I hope that you have enough inspirations and options to think about. Good luck and enjoy your new layout! Regards, Mariann...See MoreLiving room layout help please
Comments (4)good idea, here’s a few photos that were on my phone. As you can see it all needs updating/redoing etc. the sofa is actually broke and the chair belonged to my dad when he was unwell and I plan to sell it cheaply or donate to someone who needs a rise and recline. im unsure about structural changes, whether I will knock the kitchen and ‘dining room’ (which I’m using as an office currently) into one. depends on budget. I like the idea of a combined social area, but I hate noise and not sure I want to sit in kitchen as such. But for now my next room is this living room. But i do need to consider whether I have a Door into the dining room, or if I do make it one kitchen/diner I wouldn’t need a door really as the one into the kitchen would suffice. so difficult! Because I don’t have a massive budget. And as you can see everything is in need of updating. the kitchen is the same as it was in 1986, and too embarrassing to show photos of....See Moresiobhanmcgee90
