Edge mounted handles on a shaker kitchen? Look ok?

I'm getting a design and pricing for a navy shaker kitchen doors and always preferred the minimalist handle design which sits on the top of the doors.
The kitchen would be navy and white marble and I wanted to add some brushed gold accents and Metallics into the room and you can get either the straight handles or ones that curve slightly in the middle.
However, my designed has said it doesn't really work with the shaker style so much and suggested bar or cup handles.
What do you guys think?
Attached a photo of the type of thing I was looking at but it doesn't have to be like those.
It's in an open plan space with lounge and not a huge room.

Zaza Cocoon Ltd there is no one answer to your question! I'm sure you will agree that it all depends on the particular style of the kitchen and individual's preference. Personally I like handles, but at the same time I do recognise the beauty of handleless designs like push open or fingers pull groove, which are just perfect for modern, contemporary kitchen design. As Armac Martin said, handles can add character to any unit and make it look so much more stylish + you can hang towels on some. Bathroom Eleven also has an extremely valid point - boy do kids love to hang from handles! Not to mention that a push open mechanism saves you from getting the handle dirty if you are working in the kitchen and your hands are covered with flour etc.

Hi tani, the scaffolding one would be ok but will not give the sleeker square box section look your after, if it’s not too far, id take robin up on the offer to go on the welding course, you’d easily be able to put that together and cheaply as you’ll have access to their equipment, welding isn’t hard, getting it neat is the harder thing :-) I used to weld a long time back, never leaves you and very handy! As said, that’s not an expensive frame, esp if you can do it yourself, degreased raw metal and a coat if lacquer would be exactly what your after.

Are they B&P? I prefer just the knurled knobs rather than with the back plates (I bought my husband the cufflinks 😂). I think they would be better on a slab door and it's just personal preference, I love the island idea but would prefer less gold but it's your house!
