sunroom help. Looking for rug and cushion help please.

In my small sunroom I have a denim blue sectional.
I have an accent chair doesn’t sit in the same area as the sectional.
I’m looking for advice on rugs for under the sectional. Thinking something textured with colour?
What colour cushions for the sectional?
I want to warm the space up. Thank you.

Hi Dawn,

I would pick up on the neutral colour in your accent chair for the rug and cushions. These would go with the denim sectional sofa and tie in the two pieces. Neutral oatmeal, non-yellow beiges etc. These are warm colours which will bring that warmth you require.

You mention this is a sun room, so I would opt for neutrals especially if the items may are subject to a lot of sun expose as this will bleach the fabric over time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.
I wonder why you said not to go for yellow tones?
I have the yellow rug in there at the moment because it was the one I had in our previous conservatory.
I was wondering if there was any way it would work with coordinating accessories?

First of all, you aren't clueless :) I would follow your gut and turn the couch to face the fireplace, put the TV on the oak box near the window, the armchair and side table over near the built in dresser, and the red cabinet between the two windows where the armchair was. I like both your pieces of art on the other side of the room. If the red cabinet is between the two windows, you might want to switch the vertical piece with the one that is on the wall above the dining table - just see how it looks. Actually, I think the bird painting could look really good above the fireplace - it will add visual height (as jonathan suggested) and brings some red to that side of the room and it has bits of black and charcoal to tie in the fireplace and the couch...... If you have the TV to the left of the fireplace, I'd move the map (I like it for personal reasons :). Anyway, you really want a mirror up there.... it's a bit tricky because the fireplace is off set. Something this shape would be fab because most other items in there are really angular, but this one is too big and the price is crazy: Otherwise maybe a couple of small mirrors that you can also off set and put in a group, which would also add height: I'd do three or five of different sizes and shapes. I actually like the rug size and colour - it ties in with the blinds and the taupe in two pieces of your art and has good texture. Add a few more cushions to the couch and armchair in a couple of different fabrics. Maybe some of these:

I have a grey cushion from another room and have tried it on the sofa.... it looks gorgeous so will definitely be using grey as one colour, I will choose another colour or two to go with it! I think the silver is more practical in that it's neutral so you can change accessories to whatever colour you want and less dominating but the Heather is a warmer colour. You could always go silver for the sofa (with some Heather for the cushions) and Heather for the accent chairs? If you want a cosy feel add cushions, table and floor lamps and I'd go for wood for the furniture. I'm not sure on the size of the room but a rug will also help, if the room isn't huge just go for a light grey textured rug.

Hi. I can see you like a neutral scheme so what if you went for grey walls with some warmth (choose something that contrasts against the sofa) and then this turquoise rug from westelm with a lighter grey upholstered footstool (not the blue shown!). I would then add lighter and darker blue cushions and maybe team with a little chartreuse? I'd go for a large canvas art over the fire and add a round rattan log basket. Perhaps an oak cabinet or console in the alcove with a table lamp, round brass mirror and some real or faux stems. Perhaps an orb style pendant light and swing arm floor lamp next to the sofa (pics will follow!). Were you intending on adding any window dressings? .

Can you link a rug you think would work? I’m made so many mistakes with this sunroom!!! They have been costly and my husband is going mad! 🤣🤣

Hi Dawn,

I just meant to avoid yellow based neutrals, as these would clash with the neutral you have in the accent chair. But yellow as a standalone colour works well, and the accessories you've added pull it all together lovely!

Awwww! I’m so grateful thank you.
I seem to have lost my confidence in everything lately…
I chose the chair purely on the type of fabric as it will be more practical with several young grandchildren.

I think a simple neutral rug would be good. Nothing patterned or colourful. I don’t think you need cushions on the patterned chair.
