Hi, I agree with Nancy a white wooden bed would be great in your bedroom especially as you have painted your door white and your skirting is white also, or alternatively a darker grey fabric headboard would also be stunning with white bedding.. Wall colour is a very personal choice but i would recommend a light grey by The little Greene company No. 224 (INOX) i think it would work well with your existing patten and will not be to over powering in the room. See link: http://www.littlegreene.com/paint/colour/grey-paint-colours/inox-224 I would re-sintall the fireplace if you can as would bring back that classic look you are going for, keeping a white surround or shelf would also keep the room feeling light and airy. Pop some frames or artwork up on the walls behind the bed and maybe a mirror about the fireplace (if you re-install) and i think you will have a very stunning bedroom. When I first allowed to decorate my room (moving on from the wallpaper covered in woodland animals of my infant bedroom) I chose bright orange walls with green & yellow bedding & curtains, which I loved at the time but in hindsight it was awful. I was luckily able to change it a few years later to a restful pale pink & cream.

You may want to reconsider keeping curtains as well as the shutters, as they don't keep out all the light, particularly as you said the room is bright & south facing. Especially in the summertime when it gets lighter so much earlier. From someone who's been awake since 5am because of this problem! Note to self: must get round to choosing curtains! Also, F&B cornforth white is very pale. We've used it on the interior of our windows, but I think it would be a little boring if we used it on the walls, too close to white, especially in a room as bright as yours. A friend with very good taste recommended Little Greene's French Greys. It's a lovely warm grey & there are several different tones. Don't be scared of even the darkest one as even that isn't too strong on the walls! Our master bedroom used to be at the south facing front of a 30's house too, but after rebuilding we're now at the back of the house. Although I love looking out over the garden, I do miss that glorious sunshine you get! (Although not at 5 in the morning!). Have fun deciding, and remember you can always repaint if you really hate anything!

Yes keep the furniture white. You will need to incorporate luxury looking fabrics to create a cosy feel such as a soft rug or maybe a furry throw at the bottom of he bed. I wouldn't go too bold with the colour because its a lovely light room but maybe incorporate your favourite colours into a wallpaper on a feature wall and paint the rest light grey to soften the feel.
