I have built-in closets under the eaves of an American Bungalow style house in three bedrooms. They measure about 6'x 4', and my son even has a bed in one that is slightly larger, but the ceiling height is between about 2 1/2 and just barely 5 feet, so they aren't as efficient as they can be. In the master, I moved the rod to the back wall (it used to be only the depth of a hanger from the door) and down to a height to hang shirts and jackets, a little over 3' up, and this freed up the two existing short rods on the sides that are set about 4 plus feet up from the floor--long enough for most dresses, skirts and suits and such. This sort of U shaped arrangement works pretty well and the corners are for boxed out of season clothes and a short revolving (sort of a wire Lazy Susan) shoe rack.

@colourhappy I totally agree. Like everyone else I can’t help being influenced by trends but I really try to choose things that are not too ‘of the moment’. Like those enormous wall clocks someone else mentioned. They look fab but they are definitely a trend that will define this period. Eventually there will be a lot of them in landfill. Our trusty magnolia paint saw us through 10 years of family life in our old house with 3 young children. It was super easy to slap a bit more on if it ever got dirty - who am I kidding, I mean WHEN it got dirty. It didn’t clash with the wood effect floors which I think many of the currently popular grey or yellow colours would have. I suppose I’m also lucky that I’ve not spent much time as a renter so I don’t have the frustration of having magnolia forced on me. I don’t remember it being a thing in the 80s either. I DO remember the Dulux ‘hints’ range from then though: Apple white, orchid white etc. My Mum loved those.

Hi, Sounds like a really fun project, we really love experimenting with wallpaper at Amazing Space it will make a great feature of your space. Here are three favourites and some colour ideas to go with them, that will hopefully get your inspiration going. All of these options have that well Nice textural element to add depth to your space but in a really subtle way with the colours being very light and chalky. I really like the Scandi style for bedrooms as you can keep the space looking fresh and clean but with loads of cosy accessories to make it feel dead comfy. The best thing about these wallpaper options is that you can pretty much use any accent colour for your accessories. 1. Harlequin Tresilio Capas Wallpaper and Quartz Flint 3 http://www.awin1.com/pclick.php?p=3677271505&a=235703&m=1203 https://paint.duluxamazingspace.co.uk/colour/cool-neutrals/muted/kusa5o8H68/50BG76023 This option brings grey tones and a hint of blue so you could use that as your accent colour. Quartz Flint 3 is the colour I would recommend for your walls, this is a soft grey tone also with that hint of blue coming through to pick up the wallpaper. 2. This is a little more subtle but brings in a nice mix of neutral colour tones. Dusted Moss 4 goes really well with this paper as it picks out the neutral tones in the paper and is a nice warm tone for a bedroom to get that cosy relaxed atmosphere. Cole & Son Strand Wallpaper, White and Chalk Blush 4 This is another favourite of mine, from Cole and Sons so you might be familiar with it. This also comes in a darker grey colour, if you want a slightly bolder look but I personally like the softness of this choice. Thought I would update on the progress of our daughter's room. The colour change alone has made a HUGE difference! Who knew magnolia could be such a darkening colour?! So pleased I've changed it. Still got a few bits and bobs to do. I need new curtains, under bed storage, I've got a matching pendant light fitting on order for the other light in their room, I've got a grey canopy coming which is going to be hung from the ceiling in front of the airing cupboard, I'm going to paint the window recess in the grey and also the entrance walls to the room are going to be painted grey as well, new curtains perhaps, ordered a gold wall sticker to go above the white dresser (I usually hate wall stickers but it's a Shakespeare quote and I though it appropriate!) will also buy a nice, big, light pink/grey rug and perhaps some light pink curtains that are floor length. I'm trying to think of somewhere suitable to add some shelving. Originally I was going to add some on the wall at the head of their bed but it's one of them awful cardboard, fake walls so no chance (the paint took absolutely ages to dry on it as well!!!). Perhaps on the stud wall opposite the window but I will see how brave I'm feeling! I used dulux light and space Spring Rose and Dulux polished pebble in the end. Will post final pictures when I've got it all completed.
