Exteriors Design Dilemma

I need some inspiration as I really want to change the look of my dull house.

What can do to change the look of my house, I recently replaced my brown single glazed windows to white double glazing with a grey composite door as I wanted to brighten up the place but unfortunately this doesn’t match the current brown Tudor type look, I’m not creative but need some ideas to make my house look modern?

The tudor style cladding could definitely be painted another colour as well as the framing elements or verticals. Think about less creamy neutrals, maybe a stone colour as well as a grey green for the infills and maybe black where you have brown for the verticals. I would paint your garage door a different colour too unless it is brand new. Some large pots with plants would helo to brighten it up too. Do the cars have to be parked so close to the house or could you bring them forward a bit? It's hard to see the whole exterior behind them.

I have always been attracted to the Carmel-by-the-Sea houses designed by Comstock...the interiors are often decorated casually, with comfy sofas, chairs, maple & cherry furniture and nature-inspired art and accessories. Big fantasy. In real life, we are retired on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and live in a 1200 sq.ft. condo one block off a large town's Main St. and two miles from any beach. Except for the building and location, we have the rest...not sure if our decor is English casual, English coastal or ???, but I wouldn't change it, except to buy better quality sofa and chairs.

I would render the entire house in white, paint the windows and doors grey. If you struggle to get a nice looking pitch to the flat roof then perhaps go for a green roof which would improve the outlook from the bedroom looking over it. To really top it off i think a really modern style porch would be great to highlight the entrance door (rather than the garage door).

Hi Ciara I love the idea of full height doors for the garage conversion but would consider the practicality of it, think about where the desk will go. It will not add to pavement appeal if the desk is against the glass and you can see the messy bits that tend to gather under a desk. Crittal style steel windows are exorbitantly expensive, but I agree with Jonathan the house lends itself to multi paned windows. You might want to look at good quality PVC options. I would suggest the roof gets a jet wash as the green moss should come off and reveal the colour of the roof.

A starting point might be to swap out the front door - the arches of the door aren't consistent with the square of the windows. I would suggest a modern style door, possibly with horizontal glass to tie with the horizontal windows and the horizontal lines of the slatted blinds. If your overall scheme changes the garage door to wood, or wood style finish, or includes wood cladding, then you could go with a wood finish door rather than painted finish.
