Help! frustrating kitchen with too many doors!

I would create a nice sized kitchen and downstairs loo. Currently struggling with which walls to knock down/where to put downstairs loo and which doors to block to create more surface space. Any help appreciated.

The soil pipe runs externally from 1st floor bathroom into the ground in the garden at the junction between the current wall between the kitchen and dining room

Hi Jayne. I would suggest that you use warm colours (could be ocher or earthy colours) to contrast the cold colours you want. It would also be a great idea to use a built-in closet by the entrance door to place shoes or handbags. I would also attach a countertop to your kitchen isle in order to visually separate both spaces using some nice bar stools with an industrial touch. I'll be more than happy to advise you further. Hi! Nice big extension. There are a lot of structural alterations going on there. You could potentially reduce costs and get a similar set of spaces with a few adjustments that minimise the structural changes. A few things I'm wondering: 1. the huge cupboard off the TV area in the family room, would that door get in your way if later on you wanted to put in a larger sofa, perhaps a corner sofa partially along that wall? Is the TV area the place that you need the storage coming off or would it be better for that to be off the playroom to store toys in? It's worth thinking about what you plan to store in there. There seems to be quite a big new structural opening to make this and I wonder if that is an unnecessary cost, where you could either have toy storage off the playroom or just make the playroom bigger. Obviously it depends on what you plan to store in there and where you need to access it from to use it. 2. If you either made that big cupboard part of the playroom or accessible from the playroom then you could omit the structural opening and push the toilet back, then access it via a cloakroom. This would mean that you could open up the space under the stair so that it feels much bigger and that window under the stair will let light into the hallway. This would also reduce the number of doors in the hallway by 1. (I don't think the number of doors is a big issue, but if it bothers you then you could do this) Then you could also push the utility room wall back to the original line of the previous wall and make it a bit bigger, which will make it easier and more comfortable to use, and potentially save you demolition and rebuild of some wall. 3. The porch is tiny. There are benefits to having a porch, but this size of porch will be really uncomfortable to use. I would either get rid of the porch. Or make the porch bigger and change the configuration a bit, maybe by having the inner door to the right hand side and then you have a wall that you could put some bench seating and shoe storage combined along, if you are the type of family that prefers to remove shoes at the door / in the hall. Check out building regulations doc M for sizes of an accessible porch type area to give you an idea of how you might improve this porch and make it easier and more comfortable to get through. sheesh I thought with a rectangular shaped kitchen things would be simple! This is definitely a learning process! I think if if we Switched to the 600 mm cabinet instead of the 900 corner unit we’d have to have a 50 mm ’filler’ unit or something to allow the over door to open enough....hopefully I can get him to just hold off on putting more things in until it arrives so we could see how it works....I have such limited time outside of work and don’t have a job I can just swing an hour off from to go to showrooms and thints, so I just ordered the range cooker online after reading reviews. They all seem to come in either 90, 100 or 110 cm, so I just went with the smallest ‘standard’ one. when we first reserved the house I asked if I could modify the kitchen a bit, specifically put a range cooker in. He said no problem (it’s a small local developer, not one of the big companies) and that I could work out all the plans with their kitchen planner....I spent about 2 hours with her and went through a lot more emailing her back and forth to get it right...some good that’s done! im thinking the range cooker along the wall won’t work either unless I lose the peninsula thing altogether because there’s not enough room- which would sacrifice a load of counterspace....unfortunately we need the door to the living room otherwise there’s no way between the kitchen and living room without going outside! The ground floor layout is below although the kitchen plans have since been updated...

Bathroom help.....frustrated beyond belief

I got a custom built floor to ceiling cupboard which has a toothbrush charging point inside. I had been looking for bathroom cabinets which were deep enough to take a loo roll but they didn't seem to exist. I'd been planning to wall mount them, starting from the ceiling, so they were clear of the floor. We put marine ply at the bottom in case I get a flood as the whole was made of painted mdf. Remember you can adapt kitchen carcasses too and if the front of the cupboard doesn't match, consider a mirrored door, which will also give more light to your bathroom as well as incorporate a mirror.
