Peninsula or no Peninsula?

Torn between the 2.
House is a 2 bed terrace so no windows in kitchen. Really want to be able to look out to garden when working in kitchen.

Designer is saying the peninsula will make the flow really awkward and also not as pleasing to the eye.

Do I go with my heart or listen to the professional?

Size of room is c6m x 3m

I definitely wouldn’t go with that peninsula design tbh.

Is a table going in the room? What’s in the deep cupboard on the bottom left?

Would it help to have the sink by the garden door rather than a tall unit?

I'm with your kitchen designer on this one. That peninsula will really chop the room in two and be annoying to get past everytime. If you are having a table in the room couldn't you spend a lot of time there possibly even do some of your prep at the table? That sketch is deceptive as the peninsular arrangement would only allow a walkthrough of a 1m if it is indeed 3m. That is very tight. What is the width of the bottom kitchen section as the wall steps back on both sides?

Ok, so if you’re wanting all 3 I’d start 17.5cm from the wall and have them equidistant or have the 2 where you have them. I wasn’t very good at converting inches to cm (!) but if you had 3 along the peninsula part, they’d only be 23cm apart which feels too close unless they’re glass or something so don’t visually fill the space. my preference is just for the 2 over the peninsula. I’m assuming you have downlights to light up other prep areas btw

How do you plan to use it? How many people typically at a time and each doing what? How do you want it to feel? When you're cooking, sitting on the sofa, eating at the dining table, or sat at the island/peninsula - how do you want to feel at each space? If you can answer these questions then this will help you identify which is better. Hey Sue, I am just not sure it is really doing the job of a peninsula as it is very short I don't think you will get more than one stool underneath, it that what you are aiming for?

It really isn’t pleasing to the eye I’m afraid. Regarding no windows, could you have the back door changed to a slider, unless you already have one? I did that and it really increased the light coming in.

Can your entrance be moved to the edge of the room so you remove the units that are on the left as you enter the room . This will free up more space to create a u kitcheny design. And leave space at the other end for small bar stools or dining table depending how far you take the kitchen down the right hand wall.

I'd go with the peninsula, I like the design and they are really useful. It's your kitchen and you know how you want to use it, go with what you want.

I prefer no peninsula but if you really want one then put it closer to the garden
