Window Dressing for a square bay window?
Comments (18)We would say that your best bet is to go with wooden venetians, they come in a huge range of colours and give you that plantation shutter look, but without the bulk or price tag. They can be partly closed in the morning - giving you privacy but also giving you control over the light coming in. With larger slats you can angle the light towards the ceiling or towards the floor. We have a huge range of real wood (or faux wood) blinds to choose from: http://makemyblinds.co.uk/wooden-blinds.html Also if it helps we have a handy guide on how to measure for a square bay like yours: http://makemyblinds.co.uk/blog/how-to-measure-for-a-bay-window/...See MoreWindow dressing for a box bay window in the bedroom
Comments (7)I think some beautiful white voile for the day time, mounted on a very discreet ceiling mounted track, such as Silentgliss, which can be bent into the bay. I would then put a bay pole in front of this with whichever curtains go with your scheme, using a blackout lining. I would be careful not to have the curtains gathered too full though as you do not have a lot of space to the left of the window to pull them back. Although unconventional, to overcome this problem, you might want to consider having the curtains made to different widths, ie a shorter left curtain and a wider right curtain so that when they are closed they meet at the corner. On a flat window this would be very conspicuous, but your window is unusual....See MoreTo bay or not to bay? What should I do with my bay window???
Comments (13)It would be a shame to remove such an unusual bay window. Very few windows go right down to the floor like this. In many ways this creates quite a modern look as well as being a beautiful original feature. Have you thought about extending directly out from the kitchen, incorporating the utility (and maybe part of the covered passage?). This could be 2 storey with lots of glazing/bifold doors to the garden with lovely views back of your spectacular bay window. Take the wall down between the kitchen and bay window room to make it all open plan whilst retaining an interesting shape. If you still want a separate utility this could be put into the rear area of the garage, maybe with a WC. Upstairs, you could put in a shower room in part of the existing bedroom 3 next to the bathroom and with the extension it would be a good size bedroom, probably large enough to be the master with dressing room area. This should help to increase the value of the house by creating what everyone wants for a master bedroom....See MoreWhat to do with our dated brown windows???
Comments (7)I wouldn't go black, it's all a matter of opinion but I really don't like the black, a house a few doors down from us went for black, looks awful in my opinion. Our brick isn't as gorgeous as yours but is a red, we went for pale grey which we prefer to dark grey. But white is classic and you can't really go wrong with white. Excuse the old white porch, we will be swapping for a wood door and pitched roof porch in future....See MoreMichael Horton
